Menjangan Island, Excellent Diving and Snorkling Area

This island is the paradise of diving and snorkeling : coral gardens, walls, coral fishes but also big surprises : barracudas, shark. The corals are just beautifull. Very good dives with AMD (Aqua Marine Diving). It's one of the best dive sites in Bali but don't go for the big life under water. Don't forget to take the boat and a good dive center to dive at this place, it will be a great moment of your holidays. But please, be active for Menjangan Island because it is not a preserve area against the fishing (incredible because it is include in a national park) and it is a pity. So discuss and give your advice about a possibility about a total protection of the waters around this coral paradise. Diving and/or snorkeling is a must when you are here. The beautiful flora and fauna keep you mesmerized while floating over or between. Perfect place to dive. pretty good visibility. Choose wisely your diving center. Price go from 50$US to 140$US for the same things (2dives + boat + lunch + equipement renting). We decided against the extortionate rates for the trips, so got on a scooter and headed out there. couldn't get on a boat though as they were all chartered by the tours. They wanted to charge us 700,000 for the trip over! so we crashed on a nearby beach with lovely white sand and crystal blue waters - so I can only imagine what the diving was like. Since menjangan is off the track of Bali, about 4 hrs, hence there are not so many tourists around. The colors of the water is incredible, this blue can be seen in the picture but in natural it is breathtaking ! Fish fish and fish every where ! We went to two spots to snorkel with Fun and Fun. The first spot was very clear with lots of fish and coral. The second spot did not have as great clarity, nor as much coral. I have never snorkeled before, so I can't really compare this to anywhere else.

The next day we went to Biorock and snorkeled. Honestly, the Biorock was just as good - if not better for snorkeling. The coral was higher, so everything was closer to you, also there were way less people in the water. Biorock was also much cheaper (free). I loved Pemuteran, and I loved our hotel, but if I came here again I might just get a place on the beach and snorkel at Biorock.
